Verbena High School Football

As some of you know my wife, Kelly, is a speech therapist and special education teacher at Verbena when she is not helping me out at weddings. Last Friday she volunteered to help collect money at the gates for Verbena's home football game against Lochapoka. I was happy to tag along and relive some high school memories of my own by taking pictures of the game from the sidelines.

I had an absolute blast! This may come as a shock but in high school I was a photographer for the school newspaper and yearbook. From 1990 to 1994 I roamed the sidelines of every home game for my South Garland Colonels in Garland, Texas. Back then it was all manual focus with film cameras that could capture at most two pictures a second. I would focus for an area of the field and click the shutter when something came into the frame. The best I could do was hope that I got something decent. Now I have a camera that predictively auto focuses  and fires nine pictures in a second. I will say that my photographic skills have improved considerably since then but having the camera I have now sure does make it easier!

While the results weren't what the home team was looking for, we lost 33-12, hearing the bans, and being in that atmosphere again was just fun. Here are a few samples of what I got. I hope the yearbook fan find a use for them and next time Kelly works a game I'll be right there!
